Joe Lee began playing professionally when he was just 17 years old. In
the 50s he was doing session work in Memphis, Tennessee. He went on to
become A&R at Fernwood Studios where he recorded Thomas Wayne's
"Tragedy" among many many others. Joe has several records out on the
Fernwood label as well. In the 60s Joe opened Alley Records in
Jonesboro, Arkansas and began turning out hit after hit. Alley produced
records on more Northeast Arkansas musicians than any other label.
Joe also did a stint with the Bill Black Combo while Elvis was doing his
hitch in the army. They returned the favor by recording with Joe as the
Joe Lee Sextet.
Playing with Joe Lee are long time friends Joy Sanford on keyboards, Tom
Mason on upright bass and John Long on drums. All three of these gifted
musicians have recorded on Alley.
