Perfect camping in Arkansas State Parks
There's nothing better than Fall camping. The temperatures are in the
60s and low 70s, the fall colors are beautiful, wildlife is moving to
winter homes, warblers are migrating, and waterfowl and eagles are
coming in for the winter. This is a wonderful season.
WWW.ArkansasStateParks.com has details on each park mentioned here.
Plus, you can search by park or month to find programs, events and
activities taking place at your favorite Arkansas State Park this fall.
Yes, it's November - and in Arkansas that is a fine time of year. Fall
colors may be just past their peak in north Arkansas, but in the mid and
southern regions the colors are perfect. Here are a few parks that have
that perfect November campsite.
WHITE OAK LAKE west of Camden. The Arkansas Conservation Amendment has
funded a complete renovation of the park's 42 campsites. You'll find
perfect campsites among tall pines overlooking the lake. White Oak was
just awarded "Region II Park of the Year," attesting to the fine
facilities and friendly staff you'll find there.
DAISY STATE PARK south of Glenwood. This park lies on the ridges sloping
into the clear waters of Lake Greeson. This is the perfect place to see
a large number of wintering eagles and enjoy the striking fall colors of
the Ouachita Mountains.
VILLAGE CREEK STATE PARK near Wynne. These 7,000 acres of diverse
Crowley's Ridge forest, which includes native tulip poplar and maple
trees, boasts some of the most beautiful fall colors in the mid-south.
Campsites, cabins, trails, and two lakes make this a perfect location to
enjoy the fall or discover the prehistoric Native Americans interpreted
at nearby Parkin Archeological State Park.
LAKE CHICOT STATE PARK north of Lake Village. You'll find your perfect
campsite on the edge of the largest ox-bow lake in North America. You'll
see an abundance of shorebirds, waterfowl and spectacular sunsets right
from your campsite or from a lake side cabin. Don't miss the cruise with
the park naturalist into the cypress swamps across the lake.
MILLWOOD STATE PARK north of Ashdown. This large, timber-filled lake has
been a fishing bonanza for years. Plus, its location in Arkansas's
southwest corner attracts eastern and western birds creating an equal
bonanza for birders. Wintering waterfowl, bald eagles and resident
alligators add to the watchable wildlife opportunities. Don't forget
your binoculars on the lake tours or when walking Waterfowl Way Trail.
You will enjoy your perfect campsite among the southern pines at Lake
Millwood,
